Graphical explanation of the interface area measurement (IAM) methods IAM/E, IAM/I and IAM/F. With the IAM/E method, only a micrometer screw is used. The circle corresponds approximately to the diameter of the micrometer screw's measuring spindle. For IAM/I, a macroscope is additionally used to determine the interface width. IAM/E and IAM/I are carried out before the tensile test, while for IAM/F the fracture surface is measured directly after the tensile test.
